There are many reasons why I chose this specialization. Children
and their families need someone to stand up for them. I want to be an
individual that children can count on for support, opportunities, and reach out
to resources to help children. I used to be in positions where I did not know
what to do to help or how to do them. I am in a better position now to learn
more about resources I can use to help children.
Advocates
are essential in the lives of children in order to give them the best needed
opportunities to develop and succeed in life. Creation of awareness by starting
children on strong foundation can prevent some delays that each child might
exhibit later. I want to be involved in being part of an organization that will
bring resources, find funders, and help in making things happens for children.
I have a
lot I want to learn about public policy and advocacy, for instance learning
about policies, who makes them, their implementation and how children can
benefit from the policy. I would like to learn ways of supporting children and
protecting them from things which will
get in ways of their development. I would also like to have skills that would
enable me be an equipped and informed role model, mentor, or someone children
can look up to protect them from hurt or harm and surround them with positive
influential people.
I love your post! It is nice to know that there are so many others out there who think as I do. :)
ReplyDeleteI am often told that I carry a sign around on my back that says "pick me" as those in need of a voice seem to somehow find me even though I work from home. My answer is that I am glad that I generate that kind of trust in others who need that voice or at least a sounding block when they need to vent. I feel there is always something new to be learned in order to advocate more effectively.
CHika, I agree that advocates are essential in the lives of children.I work in a Head Start and there are so many families that enter the program , many parents tell me that they did not know that such a program existed. There need to be more people advocating for programs to assist families who are in need who dont know where to go for help.
ReplyDeleteGlad we are making progress in getting the word out and being their voice!
